Understanding Common Computer Errors

by admin on May.20, 2009, under Tips

More often than not, a computer error will show up when it is least expected โ€“ causing the whole system to shut down unexpectedly and in the worst case scenario, the error can accidentally corrupt all data stored in the computer. Note that it is almost impossible to avoid a computer error, but it is upon a computer owner to understand the meaning of the errors, so that when they pop up, they can be corrected or better still, so that their occurrence can be minimized.

Typically, a computer operates by a series of smooth running commands, but when there is a conflict between the commands, or when a command requests for an unavailable information or process, it results in an error. A very good example is using software that is not compatible with your system. When software is released in the market, they are accompanied by a list of requirements that each computer system must meet in order to have the software function properly. To avoid software related errors, always check the compatibility of your system.

Lack of enough memory on your computer system will also create errors โ€“ this justifies the reason why each software program has to have a minimum memory requirement. This is to say that if a particular program requires 15MB of memory to run properly, if it manages to run in the first place in a computer that has 5MB of memory, it ought to generate an error. The same applies for monitor resolution and color depth, and disk space. Basically, an error will occur if a program is trying to access a feature or hardware that is unavailable.

It is obvious that similar programs share common files. An error occurs when the shared file is outdated. This is to say that if for instance program Y is installed and functions properly, when program X will be installed, it might not use the same file as that of Y since X is more current than Y. Thus, the computer user has to install an up-to-date version of the common shared file for the new program to function properly.

Still on point, errors can occur as a result of incompatible or outdated drivers. The only way out of such errors is to keep your system drivers as up-to-date as possible. This you can do by updating your computer drivers online for free, for example from the Microsoft official website. These are just few of the many errors in a computer system.
